Family members generally adopt a certain sense of responsibility and obligation to each other. This sense of obligation and responsibility is not without the pressure of some measure of social expectation, both within the family and without.

Parents are not only expected, but legally required to look after their minor children. Siblings are expected to look after their own. Children are expected to look after their parents in their old age.

These legal and social expectations do not necessarily represent loving concern or desire for the pleasure of your company that would be it's own motivating force. The pressure of social, moral, or religious expectation may give rise to supportiveness that represents more of a sense of duty, than genuine interest and concern for the well-being of a family member.
